Q.1: Is it possible to run out of hot water with a solar hot water system?

A.1: Generally,if the system has been installed correctly and is of an appropriate size for your family's needs you should not run short of hot water.

Q.2: What type of solar efficiency should I expect from my solar hot water system?

A.2: As a general guide a solar hot water system will provide approximately 80% or more (up to 95%) of your hot water from the sun over a 12 month annual period

Q.3: What are REC's (Renewable Energy Certificates?)

A.3: Renewable Energy Certificates (or RES's as they are more commonly know) are points or values that are assigned to solar hot water systems (and heat pumps) that represent the proven efficiency of that particular system. These systems are independently tested by laboratories appointed by the federal government. The higher the number of REC's achieved, the greater the efficiency of the system and therefore the larger the financial incentive from the government.

Q.4: Is it a requirement to operate a manual booster switch when using my solar hot water system?

A.4: This can be your choice. You can choose to operate the booster system as and when required,or if this is inconvenient (and as the booster is operated on a thermostat and will only come on as required) you can choose to allow the system to boost automatically.

Q.5: Do I have to have a tank of the solar hot water system installed onto my roof?

A.5: No you don't. These day's solar hot water systems are available as either space saving roof mounted systems or aesthetically pleasing split systems where the tank can be installed in a location at the ground level inside or outside

Q.6: Can I expect the hot water from my solar hot water system to be as hot as I'm used to from my previous electric/gas hot water system

A.6: Yes,in some cases solar hot water systems can produce even hotter water. However,as a standard requirement for all new homes (built since 1998),a tempering valve must be installed to regulate the temperature of hot water to a maximum of 50 degrees Celsius. This valve can either regulate the water temperature to just the bathrooms and hand wash basin (leaving the kitchen and laundry with hotter water),or it can be installed to regulate the whole house.

Q.7: Will my solar system overheat during summer or on very hot days?

A.7: No it won't. Modern solar hot water systems have control devices that do not allow over-temperature to occur during periods of very hot weather.

Q.8: What amount of greenhouse gases do solar hot water systems remove from our atmosphere (when compared to electric hot water systems?)

A.8: Up to 4.5 tonnes,or equal to removing the accumulated annual pollution of a small car that is being driven on our roads.

Q.9: Am I eligible to for the Government Rebates?

A.9: Read more

Q.10: What is Chromagen's comprehensive warranty plan?

A.10: Read more
